Banaras Hindu University or BHU is an internationally reputed temple of learning located in the holy city of Varanasi.
History about BHU
Banaras Hindu University ranks among the first few in the country in the field of academic and research output.This innovative university was founded by a great nationalist leader Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya in 1916 with the cooperation of great personalities like Dr. Annie Besant who was a socialist and viewed it as the University of India. The university has three institutes, two campuses, 140 departments, four advanced centers, four interdisciplinary schools, and 16 faculties. The University is making its mark at the national and international levels in a wide range of frontier areas of Social Science, Science, Medicine, Agriculture, and Technology, etc. The area of the main campus of this premiere, Central University, is 1300 Acres, having extensive greenery, well-maintained roads, a temple, an airstrip, and buildings that are an architectural delight.
BHU today has around 20 thousand students, which includes the 2500 research scholars and 650 foreign students from the 340 nations, under one roof who are pursuing different academic programs at this campus as well as the newly established Rajiv Gandhi South Campus. BHU has also established the Rajiv Gandhi South Campus at the Barkachha around 75 km southwest of Varanasi on the 2760 acres of land.
Museum In Campus
Bharat Kala Bhavan was established in 1920 and become the proprietary of BHU in 1950. When the collection is transferred to the university campus. It has a rare collection of artifacts related to the number of Hindu and Buddhist sculptures, art, painting, contemporary art form and brown statues from the first and five centuries.

Facilities
Hostels: There are 60 hostels, which include the 17 girl’s hostel, with an accommodation capacity of 9128 students on the campus.
Central Library
The central library is one of the largest libraries in the country. It was established in the Telang Hall of the Central Hindu College in the Kamachha campus of the University in the year 1916, with a small but precious collection donated by Professor PK Talang.
International Centre:
The International Centre of the Banaras Hindu University was established in the year 2004, with an objective to deal with all the matters related to the foreign nationals with collaboration with the foreign universities, foreign scholars visiting India as a Visiting lecturers/professor, Alumni Association of foreign students, Admission of foreign students, etc. The international center is headed by the chairman of the international center, assisted with the coordinator, international student’s affair and coordinator, international collaboration.
Computer center:
The computer center offers quality services to the university community in the computing facilities, like the e-mail, etc. It helps the researchers to get their research data analyzed, extends internet facilities in the university, which enables to access the World Wide Web and offers the laboratory facility to the students of science and technology.
Research Facilities:
It offers facilities like the Multiphoton Confocal microscope and an atomic force microscope, etc.
Extension Activities:
BHU is promoting extension services in the areas of the technology, rural, health development, and self-employment at both the Rajiv Gandhi South and the main campus. The platforms like the “Gramin Gyan Kendra” by the Asia Media Labs and Techno Entrepreneurship Promotion Program by the Department of Science and Technology, Technology Business Incubator by the TIFAC.
Hospital In BHU:
The hospital was established in the year 1926 with the 96 beds; Sir Sunderlal Hospital of BHU has grown into a 927-bed hospital with all the modern medical-surgical and investigate amenities. It is the only Tertiary Care Hospital in the Northern Eastern UP, which caters to more than ten crore population. It is primarily a teaching and training hospital attached to the Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU. The hospital consists of the following sections – Emergency, OPD, Inpatient, ICU/ICC, OT services, Blood Bank, Centre for Clinical Investigation, Radiology, Microbiology, Immunology, and Mortuary. The Hospital has all the clinical disciplines, which Radiation & Radiotherapy Medicine, Pediatric – Surgery, General Surgery, Surgical Oncology, and Dental Surgery.
Employment Cell:
The Banaras Hindu University, as well as some faculties, have placement cells. The main function is to publicize available positions, hold campus interviews, and arrange for training/internship programs. The extent of gainful employment is variable across faculties. It is nearly around 100% in the Institute of Technology, Institute of Medical Sciences, Faculties of Law, Management Studies and Commerce, and Institute of Agricultural Sciences.
Student Council:
